About Kim Nguyen

Former Cracker Barrel Cook & Recipe Contributor

Hi, I’m Kim Nguyen.

I’ve always enjoyed working with food, but my experience in professional kitchens taught me something I still believe today: good comfort food doesn’t have to be complicated to be delicious.

From December 2016 through December 2017, I worked as a Cook at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in Wilmington, North Carolina. That firsthand experience gave me an appreciation for the preparation, consistency, and simple techniques behind the homestyle dishes people love.

Today, I share Cracker Barrel-inspired recipes to help home cooks recreate those familiar comfort-food favorites in their own kitchens.

Why I Started Sharing These Recipes

I know that when you’re craving a favorite Cracker Barrel dish, finding a recipe is only the beginning.

You want the biscuits to be tender, the chicken to be flavorful, the sides to have the right texture, and the finished dish to feel like the comfort food you remember.

That’s why I focus on the details that make a difference in a home kitchen.

I share practical instructions, useful cooking tips, ingredient guidance, and simple techniques to make these recipes easier to follow and more dependable.

My goal is simple: help you make Cracker Barrel-inspired comfort food at home without making cooking feel complicated.

My Food & Hospitality Experience

My time at Cracker Barrel was an important part of my food-service experience, but it wasn’t the only kitchen where I learned.

Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of food-service and hospitality roles in Wilmington, North Carolina, including Prep Cook at Tidal Creek Co-op, Shift Leader at Moe’s Southwest Grill, Bartender at Nori Asian Fusion & Sushi Bar, and Server at True Blue Butcher & Table.

I’ve also worked in food-focused roles at Harris Teeter, Empire Deli & Bagel, and Edible Arrangements, along with other hospitality work.

Each position taught me something different about food preparation, timing, consistency, ingredients, and serving people well.

But my experience as a Cracker Barrel cook is especially relevant to the recipes I share here.

How I Approach My Recipes

When I work on a Cracker Barrel-inspired recipe, I focus on the details that matter when you’re cooking at home.

I pay attention to ingredients, preparation, cooking time, texture, and technique because small changes can make a big difference in the finished dish.

I also try to explain the why behind important steps when it can help you avoid a common mistake.

You shouldn’t need professional kitchen equipment or complicated techniques to make a comforting meal.

My recipes are written for real home kitchens and everyday cooks.

Working in food service taught me that people remember more than just what a meal tastes like.
